The Arrival into Africa

So after a long, but safe and uneventful day of traveling (praise the Lord) I have arrived in Nairobi, Kenya.  Although it's about 11:00pm here, the drive to our house was awesome and honestly just weird.  I've taken numerous African classes at UofM so my perception of Africa was not just safari, lions, tribes and slums.  There are many industrialized and modernized cities in Africa, including Nairobi.  But I did see a lot of poor areas once we left the industrial sector of Nairobi.  People roaming the street, meeting at night clubs, shacks etc.  It has already been somewhat eye opening.  I am definitely not in my element, but I love it and I feel comfortable thus far.  I've loved every minute haha.  Once I got off the plane I was meant with a strong scent of B.O. but have seen some incredible people already.  It's a different world out here.  When we got back to the house (which is super tight, in a gated community and near the slums we will be visiting) there were several guests.  One was named Steward, from the UK who has been a missionary in Africa for 17 years workings for Wycliffe Bible Translators.  He shared some incredible stories about why he felt translating the bible into numerous dialects was one of the most important things we can do for people and the church.  The gospel needs to be heard.  I may have to take a look into this organization because it sounds awesome.  So yeah, thus far the trip here has been incredible and I've been here 4 hours.  I got off the plane so giddy and just excited to be in Africa.  It truly is an answered prayer and a blessing that I'm here.  God knew this was a desire on my heart and He has blessed me : )

So tomorrow we will be visiting the street boys at an orphanage that takes kids in for the day for tutoring, food and fellowship.  I'm super pumped to play with these African boys.  Pray that we can love on these kids and that they can see Christ through us.  God bless!  I'm out and very sleep deprived.
